
Khin Ni Ni Thein (Ni Ni) is a distinguished global water professional with over 45 years of leadership in inclusive water governance, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), and Hydroinformatics. Founder and Chair of the Myanmar Water Academy/Think Tank, she also serves as Myanmar Country Chair of the G100 Ecocivilisation Wing, Vice Chair of NARBO and AHC, and Co-Founder of the Transformative Water-Learning Partnership Consortium. Her contributions span Africa, Asia, and Europe since 1987. As a Member of the National Water Resources Committee and Secretary of its Advisory Group, she served as Lead Drafter of Myanmar’s National Water Policy, Myanmar Water Framework Directive, and Water Law. She is also a steering committee member of the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN). Since 2001, she has advanced peacebuilding in water governance, notably through her involvement in UNESCO’s PCCP program. Her contributions to the Vatican Conference (2004), her leadership of the Spiritual Transformation in Water Resources Management (S9) initiative at AIT (2008), the Mekong Dialogue on Water, Happiness, and Conscious Cooperation (2022), and the “Water for Peace and Climate Resilience” 26-seminar series (2024–25) stand as significant milestones in her work. She was shortlisted for the Stockholm Water Prize in 2025 and again for 2026.
